We have outlined below some of the most important driving rules of Finland, in order to help awareness of different driving
laws in foreign countries.
Please use below rules as guide, but keep in mind that rules are subject to change and they are corrected as of November 2012.

Which Side of the Road?
Please drive on the RIGHT side of the road in Finland.
Unique Country Driving Laws
- It is mandatory to drive with your lights on during the day.
- Using your moble phone is restricted to the use of hands-free device
- Winter tires are mandatory in Finland between 01Dec - 28Feb
- Accidents with wildlife ( elk, reindeer or other big animal ) must be reported to the police
- Do not use horn unless in danger
- It is allowed to stop or park on the road only on the right-hand side
- Streets may be cleaned on regular basis; signs will indicate when you are not permitted to park on the roadside
Speed Limits
For a standard Avis rental vehicle with no trailers:
- Urban areas: 40 km/h - 50 km/h
- Rural areas: 80 km/h - 100 km/h
- Motorways: 100 km/h (during the summer 120 km/h)
Please note spead changes are indicated by road signes.
Child Safety / Seatbelt Laws
It is compulsory for all people inside the vehicle to wear a seatbelt.
- Children under 36kg and/or under 150cm must use the correct child seat.
Please ask your Avis representative to help fit your child with the correct child seat.
