We have outlined below some of the most important driving rules of Denmark, in order to help awareness of different driving
laws in foreign countries.

Please use below rules as guide, but keep in mind that rules are subject to change and they are corrected as of November 2012.

Which Side of the Road?

Please drive on the RIGHT side of the road in Denmark.

Unique Country Driving Laws

  • Using mobile phone while driving is forbidden
  • Use horn in the city only to prevent accidents
  • Danish motorways are toll-free
  • The two major bridges - Oresund and Storebaelt are subject toll charges.
  • You must have your lights on during day and night
  • Don't turn red on red light
  • Give way to right

Speed Limits

For a standard Avis rental vehicle with no trailers:
  • Urban areas: 50 km/h
  • Rural areas: 80 km/h or 90 km/h
  • Motorways: 110 km/h or 130km/h

Child Safety / Seatbelt Laws

It is compulsory for all people inside the vehicle to wear a seatbelt.
  • Children under 3 years and less than 135cm must be seated in a child seat.

Please ask your Avis representative to help fit your child with the correct child seat.
