We have outlined below some of the most important driving rules of Belgium, in order to help awareness of different driving
laws in foreign countries.
Please use below rules as guide, but keep in mind that rules are subject to change and they are corrected as of November 2012.

Which Side of the Road?
Please drive on the RIGHT side of the road in Belgium.
Unique Country Driving Laws
- In Belgium many crossings are monitored by street cameras, and if you pass on red light you may get serious fine.
Speed Limits
For a standard Avis rental vehicle with no trailers:
- Urban areas: up to 50 km/h
- Rural areas: 70 km/h
- Motorways and dual carriageways separated by a central reservation 120 km/h
- A limit of 30 km/h may be indicated at the entrance to a built up area or in school areas
- Vehicles with spiked tyres must not exceed 60 km/h on normal roads and 90 km/h on Motorways / dual carriageways
Please note spead changes are indicated by road signes.
Child Safety / Seatbelt Laws
It is compulsory for all people inside the vehicle to wear a seatbelt.
- National law requires the appropriate child and adolescent passenger restraints.
- Children to remain seated in rear facing car seats until age 4 years.
- Children under 135 cm must be fitted in the correct childseat.
